About the Role
Colchester Medical Practice has a fantastic opportunity for a GP assistant (GPA) to join our team on a full or part-time basis for for up to 37 hours per week. This is a 2 year fixed term contract. The GPA position is a support role, covering administrative tasks and, if appropriate, some basic clinical duties, to assist the GPs, enabling them to make the best use of consultation time.
 
The post-holder will form part of our multi-disciplinary, primary-care team and contribute to the smooth running of the surgery.
 
The main duties of this role will include:
  • Managing incoming and outgoing clinical correspondence;
  • Extracting information from clinical documents that require coding;
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow-up appointments;
  • Completing basic (non-opinion) forms, and core elements of some forms, for the GP to approve and sign. These might include insurance, mortgage and benefits agency forms, for example;
  • Improving patient flow;
  • Supporting patient experience by reiterating information from the GP;
  • Assisting with practice tasks;
  • Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. arranging admission;
  • Supporting the prescription clerk team.

  • Ability to multi-task and to work accurately under pressure;
  • Ability to work in a team as well as being comfortable working independently.
