About the Role

Burlington Primary Care is looking for an experienced advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) or advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) to join our team in a role that combines two things we genuinely need: advanced clinical capacity and nursing leadership. This permanent role is offered on either a full-time or a part-time basis.

This is a hybrid post: a proportion of your time will be dedicated to leading our nursing and HCA team, contributing to service development, and helping shape how nursing is delivered at Burlington. The remainder will be clinical, providing advanced assessment and management of acute and undifferentiated presentations alongside our GP partners. The balance between the two is negotiable and will be shaped around the right candidate.

For the right person, this is not a compromise, it is an opportunity to work at the full breadth of your capability: seeing complex patients, building and developing a team, and helping to drive the kind of innovation and prevention-focused care we are committed to.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and undifferentiated presentations independently
  • Support the management of long-term conditions and complex multi-morbidity
  • Prescribe independently within your scope of practice
  • Contribute to delivery of enhanced and preventative care services
  • Champion lifestyle medicine and behaviour change approaches within your clinical work
  • Participate in group consultation models and support their further development

Nursing Leadership:

  • Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and support to the nursing and HCA team
  • Lead on workforce development including induction, appraisal, and mentoring
  • Oversee long-term condition management across the nursing team
  • Develop and implement nursing protocols, care pathways, and service improvements
  • Ensure compliance with CQC standards, national guidance, and practice policies
  • Represent nursing at practice leadership level alongside the GP partners and practice manager
  • Contribute to PCN objectives and wider collaborative working

About the Candidate

We are looking for an experienced ANP or ACP, who is confident managing acutely unwell patients independently. You will have a strong primary care background and a genuine interest in the leadership side of nursing, not as a stepping stone, but as work you find meaningful.

You are comfortable working across both clinical and managerial responsibilities, and you understand that the two are most effective when they inform each other. You bring the credibility to lead a nursing team and the clinical skill to hold your own in an advanced practice role.

You will also share our commitment to culturally sensitive, equitable care. Our patient population is genuinely diverse, with many patients for whom English is not a first language, and this is one of the most rewarding aspects of working here.

Essential requirements:

  • Registered nurse with current NMC registration
  • Master's level qualification in advanced practice, or equivalent demonstrable advanced competence
  • Independent prescriber qualification
  • Significant primary care experience at an advanced level
  • Proven ability to independently assess and manage acute presentations
  • Experience leading, supervising, or mentoring clinical staff
  • Strong knowledge of long-term condition management and preventative care
  • Excellent communication, clinical decision-making, and organisational skills
  • Commitment to clinical governance and evidence-based practice

Desirable requirements:

  • Leadership or management qualification
  • Experience in workforce planning and staff development
  • Knowledge of QOF, Enhanced Services, and PCN working
  • Interest or experience in lifestyle medicine, health coaching, or behaviour change approaches
  • Experience delivering or supporting group consultation models
  • Additional language skills

About Us

We have been serving the Ipswich community for over 50 years, and we have built something worth being part of. A practice with roots in the community, a team that knows its patients, and a culture that takes both clinical excellence and staff wellbeing seriously.

We are CQC-rated Good. We are forward-thinking without being chaotic. We are committed to innovation without losing the personal touch that makes general practice what it is.

Our GP partners bring clinical expertise across palliative care, diabetes, care of the elderly, women's health, and lifestyle medicine. We believe prevention is as important as treatment, and we are actively building services that reflect that. We run group consultations as part of how we deliver care and are keen to expand this further with the right people around us.

Our multidisciplinary team includes nurses, HCAs, a paramedic, pharmacists, a pharmacy technician, a GP assistant, and long-term condition care coordinators, a team that is growing and that needs strong clinical leadership to thrive.

We are based at 14 Burlington Road, Ipswich, town centre, well connected, with on-site parking for staff.

Why Join Us?

  • A genuinely dual role: clinical autonomy and leadership responsibility in one post
  • Clinical breadth: a diverse, complex patient list that will challenge and reward you
  • A seat at the table: your voice heard at partner level, not filtered through layers
  • Prevention-first culture: lifestyle medicine taken seriously, with space to innovate
  • Innovative ways of working: group consultations already in use; room to develop new models
  • Investment in you: leadership development, specialist interests, and CPD actively supported
  • Work-life balance: staff wellbeing genuinely valued, not just stated
  • Stability: a practice with over 50 years of community roots and a committed permanent team
  • Competitive salary + NHS pension
