About the Role

Queens Park Group Surgery is looking to welcome a a reliable, compassionate and organised phlebotomist to their team. 
This position can be offered on a full or part-time basis, working Monday to Friday, with some Saturday mornings. This can be discussed at interview. 

In this role, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples safely and efficiently, supporting patients during procedures, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring specimens are correctly labelled, processed, and prepared for transport. You will work closely with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to provide high-quality patient care in a busy primary care environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Perform venepuncture safely and accurately in accordance with practice protocols and infection control standards.
  • Identify patients correctly and confirm relevant details before specimen collection.
  • Label, process, and prepare samples for courier collection or laboratory transport.
  • Maintain accurate patient records using the practice clinical system.
  • Explain procedures clearly to patients and help reassure those who may feel anxious or uncomfortable.
  • Prepare and maintain the treatment room, ensuring equipment and supplies are stocked and stored appropriately.
  • Follow all health and safety, confidentiality, safeguarding, and infection prevention procedures.
  • Monitor and report any concerns, unusual incidents, or adverse reactions promptly.
  • Support the wider clinical team with related duties as appropriate, which may include basic observations or other healthcare assistant tasks if trained to do so.
  • Help provide cover during busy periods, staff absence, holidays, and occasional Saturday morning clinics.

 

About the Candidate

To be considered for this position, you will have the following;
  • Trained and competent in venepuncture/phlebotomy.
  • Previous experience working as a Phlebotomist in a GP practice, primary care, clinic, or similar healthcare setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to reassure patients and remain calm and professional at all times.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy in specimen labelling and recordkeeping.Understanding of infection control, confidentiality, and safe handling of clinical specimens.
  • Basic computer skills and confidence using electronic patient record systems.
  • Ability to organize workload effectively and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Flexible and dependable, with willingness to work some Saturday mornings.
